Basel is at the center of the upcoming indoor show jumping season. The World Cup Final will take place at the Rhine knee at the beginning of April.
Qualifying for the unofficial World Indoor Championships starts in Oslo on Sunday. The top 18 from the Western European League will make the leap to Basel, where Sweden's Henrik von Eckermann, who is seeded as defending champion, wants to complete the hat-trick after winning in 2023 and 2024.
The Swiss team manager's goal for the winter is for at least three pairs to make it through to the final. Olympic silver medallist Steve Guerdat, Martin Fuchs, Edouard Schmitz and Géraldine Straumann will be chasing points at the start in Oslo. The three men will also be riding in Helsinki a week later.
There are a total of 14 qualifying competitions for the show jumpers to choose from, including Basel on January 12. The organizers around Andy Kistler are putting on two major events in the coming months.
The World Cup Final in Basel from April 2 to 6 includes the disciplines of dressage, vaulting and show jumping. The show jumping championships will be held over three days. Basel is the highlight of 2025 for the Swiss aces, as the European Championships in the summer are not linked to Olympic qualification and there is no competition from overseas.
