B-girl Ami from Japan is the first female Olympic champion in breakdancing. The 25-year-old, whose real name is Ami Yuasa, beat B-girl Nicka, Dominika Banevic from Lithuania, in the final.
In the three rounds of the battle, which was held on the Place de la Concorde in central Paris, the Japanese dancer impressed the nine judges more each time, winning six votes once and five votes twice.
On Saturday, Ami's male antipode will be sought in the men's breakdance final, but the duo is likely to remain the only ones who can call themselves Olympic champions for a while. In Los Angeles in four years' time, the dance sport that emerged from hip-hop culture will no longer be part of the Olympic program.
