On Sunday evening in the final, the soon-to-be 30-year-old can make another attempt. Three years ago in Tokyo, the Olympic bronze medallist from French-speaking Switzerland lowered the Swiss record to 1:56.17.

Desplanches was the only Swiss Aquatics representative to make it through to the final on Saturday. Gian-Luca Gartmann achieved a personal best in ninth place in the 200m medley (2:00.39). Marius Toscan, the third Swiss swimmer over this distance, however, failed in the preliminary heats

Thierry Bollin missed out on the final in the 100 m backstroke in eleventh place (54.83). The 24-year-old has qualified for the Olympic Games over this distance. Fanny Borer came 12th out of 19 starters in the 200 m dolphin.
