Last week, Kloten shone from the top of the National League table for the first time in eleven years, but the high flying start to the season did not do the surprisingly strong Zurich Unterlanders any good. Since then, there have been three defeats without a point.
The decision in favor of Ambri-Piotta came in the 49th minute. The Canadian Kodie Curran caught Kloten's otherwise strong goalie Sandro Zurkirchen in the near corner from an acute angle. It was the first goal on Swiss ice for the 34-year-old defenseman from Belarus, who is only on a limited contract.
Kloten were unable to respond to the 2:1, even though they had another good chance in a power play in the final phase. Niko Ojamäki equalized the Ticino team's early lead with his first goal of the season shortly before the middle of the game. Overall, Ambri, who lifted themselves to fourth place with their sixth win in the last seven games, were the better team.
Kloten already lost all four games against Ambri-Piotta last season and have not even won at home against the Leventines since 2018.
