EHC Kloten opens the new season by winning two penalty shootouts. These are the facts from Friday night's five games.

Kloten also defeats Bern

After Davos, EHC Kloten also surprised the skating club Bern on Tuesday. In this only game between two winners of the starting round, Kloten prevailed for the second time in a penalty shootout. Rafael Meier and Sami Niku scored again in the second penalty shootout, turning a 0:1 into a 2:1 with the last two penalties. In regulation time, Miro Aaltonen scored for Kloten and Ramon Untersander for Bern. Ludovic Waeber, Kloten's new goalie, saved 33 shots and four penalties.

Zurich turnaround

Champions ZSC Lions were lucky to win their first home game of the new season. In a game with nine lead changes, the Lions won 5:4 after overtime after Ambri-Piotta had led 4:3 until 114 seconds before the end. Denis Malgin saved the Zurich team in the 59th minute with an extra skater on the ice and decided the game in the 64th minute with his second goal of the game. In addition to Malgin, Dean Kukan (plus-4 rating) also shone for the ZSC Lions.

Ajoie insufficient

HC Ajoie did not look good in their first two games. In their 4-1 loss in Freiburg in Game 1, the Ajoulots held on to a 1-1 draw until the 52nd minute. In their first home game against Lausanne, the Jura side were 3-0 down after just 13 minutes. In the end it was 6:3 for the Vaud team. Theo Rochette, Lauri Pajuniemi and Tim Bozon scored the first three goals. Rochette has already scored three goals for Lausanne in the new season.

Langnau surprise

The SCL Tigers came away with a 4-2 home win against Fribourg-Gottéron. Stéphane Charlin with 22 saves and a save percentage of 91.67% led the Langnau team to victory. Gottéron goalie Reto Berra had a save percentage of less than 79%. Langnau's young newcomers Joshua Fahrni (for the second time) and Dario Allenspach were also among the scorers.

Second win for the Lakers

The Rapperswil-Jona Lakers took a 2-0 lead against Biel after just six minutes and then just managed to hold on for a 3-2 victory. Tony Rajala returned to the ice for Biel, but left with a minus-2 record. While the Lakers won both of their first two games, EHC Biel are still without a point after two games. The Seelanders scored only three goals in the first two games.
