Briton Lewis Hamilton wins the home Grand Prix at Silverstone in his Mercedes ahead of world champion Max Verstappen. The record winner celebrates his 104th GP victory, the first since December 2021.
In a British GP that was temporarily affected by rain, Hamilton held off Verstappen in the Red Bull on the final laps as he made up ground. 3rd place went to Lando Norris in the McLaren, while pole man George Russell retired with a technical defect on lap 34.
The Sauber team once again came away empty-handed. Valtteri Bottas in 15th place and Zhou Guanyu in eighteenth and last place were one and two laps down respectively and well out of the points.
For the 39-year-old Briton Hamilton, it was the 104th victory of his career after a long drought of 945 days and his ninth triumph at Silverstone. No other driver has ever triumphed nine times at the same circuit in motorsport's premier class.
In a turbulent Grand Prix with rain showers and difficult conditions at times, defending champion Verstappen from the Netherlands extended his comfortable championship lead over Norris.
