The refugee from South Sudan, who has been allowed to compete for Switzerland apart from the Olympic Games since mid-May and won gold in the 10,000 m and bronze in the 5000 m at the European Championships in Rome, beat second-placed Somali Abdi-Salam Ali from LC Uster by 29 seconds in 1:04:31.
There were two Swiss women on the podium in the women's race, Fabienne Schlumpf and Sereina Scherzinger. Schlumpf from the Zurich Oberland lost 39 seconds to the Kenyan winner Rabecca Chepkwemoi with a time of 1:13:21 hours. Scherzinger crossed the finish line after 1:15:34 hours.
