Marc Hirschi wins and wins and wins. After the classic in San Sebastian and the Bretagne Classic, the Bernese rider wins his third one-day race in a row at the GP Industria & Artigianato.
Hirschi earned his victory with a solo attack shortly after the day's breakaway group was caught with 14 kilometers remaining. Ultimately, the 26-year-old from the UAE Emirates team finished the race in Tuscany, which had been shortened from 196 to 169 km due to the bad weather, with a four-second lead over Guillermo Thomas Silva from Uruguay. Hirschi's team-mate Diego Ulissi finished third, nine seconds behind.
It was Hirschi's sixth victory of the season and his 20th overall as a professional. If he can maintain this good form until the home World Championships, he will definitely be a force to be reckoned with in Zurich. Until then, the 2020 World Championship bronze medallist has three more one-day races in Italy next week and the Tour of Luxembourg from 18 September onwards on his schedule before he sets his sights on his second rainbow jersey on 29 September after the one in the U23 category in Innsbruck in 2018.
