Mauro Schmid takes a strong 2nd place in the 13th stage of the Vuelta with the tough mountain finish in Puerto de Ancares. The Zurich rider was only beaten by the Canadian Michael Woods.
As so often in the last few days, Mauro Schmid rode an active race and was part of a breakaway group. On the final climb, he only had to let Michael Woods go, who triumphed solo with a 45-second lead and celebrated his third stage win in a Tour of Spain.
In the overall standings, the top favorite Primoz Roglic took a step forward. In sixteenth place, almost eleven minutes behind the leader Ben O'Connor, he gained almost two minutes. The surprising Australian only has a lead of 1:21 minutes over Roglic with eight stages to go. Third-placed Spaniard Enric Mas is already more than three minutes behind.
