The 4x100 m medley relay team with Roman Mityukov, Jérémy Desplanches - in his last race of his career -, Nils Liess and Antonio Djakovic finished 15th in the preliminary heats.

In 3:38.74, the Swiss quartet was 3.28 seconds off last year's Swiss record and almost four seconds behind 14th-placed Japan. The fastest nation in the preliminary heats of the 4x100m medley was host nation France in 3:31.36. A time of 3:32.51 was required to qualify for the final.

For Desplanches, the two lane lengths in the breaststroke were synonymous with the end of his successful swimming career. The Genevan, who turns 30 on Tuesday, had already decided to retire before the Summer Games in Paris.

Desplanches is one of the most successful Swiss swimmers and has medals to his name in the 200 m medley at the Olympic Games (bronze in 2021), World Championships (silver in 2019) and European Championships (gold in 2018).
