Daniele Orsato will be in charge of Switzerland's quarter-final against England on Saturday (18:00) in Düsseldorf. The Italian has already refereed the preliminary round match between Switzerland and Germany.
It will also be the second match under Orsato's direction for England. He was already on the pitch for the Three Lions' first group match against Serbia. This will be the 48-year-old's fourth appearance at the finals. He last took charge of the round of 16 match between Portugal and Slovenia.
Orsato has been a FIFA referee since 2010 and has a wealth of experience. After officiating the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich in 2020, he was named World Referee of the Year.
This is Orsato's fifth assignment at a major tournament after the 2016 European Championship (as fourth official), the 2018 World Cup (as VAR), the 2021 European Championship and the 2022 World Cup, where he officiated the opening match, among others.
