Sunday went perfectly for Swiss professional cyclist Marc Hirschi. First he is re-nominated for the Olympic Games, then he wins the overall classification of the Tour of the Czech Republic.
The 25-year-old Bernese rider from Team Emirates left nothing to be desired in the 4th and final stage of the Tour of the Czech Republic. When the Frenchman Julien Alaphilippe attacked in the finish of the final stage over 131 km from Sumperk to Sternberk, Hirschi reacted immediately, although the Frenchman was six and a half minutes behind in the overall classification. In the end, however, Hirschi left the stage win to the Frenchman.
By winning the 2nd stage, where he took the overall lead, and then two 2nd places in stages 3 and 4, Marc Hirschi clearly demonstrated that he was by far the strongest rider in the Czech Republic. His form is so good that Hirschi may even be able to count himself in for the Olympic road race in Paris next Saturday. Hirschi's greatest successes to date: World Championship bronze in the road race four years ago and victory in the Flèche Wallone 2020.
