The Federal Jubilee Wrestling Festival on Sunday in Appenzell will take place without Pirmin Reichmuth. The 28-year-old from Zug has had to cancel his participation in the season's highlight due to injury.
Knee problems have forced Reichmuth to take a longer break from competition. Despite intensive physiotherapy and rest, the symptoms of overuse that occurred after his victory at the Brünig-Schwinget have not sufficiently subsided, the Central Swiss athlete announced in a statement. The motivation and form would have been there to achieve great things. A final stress test in the final training session before the 125th anniversary of the Swiss Wrestling Federation left him with no choice but to cancel.
The injury-prone Reichmuth's knees have been causing him problems for years. He has already torn his cruciate ligament four times - three times in his right knee and once in his left.
Reichmuth's withdrawal is a major setback for the hopes of the Central Swiss team. After the cancellation of the Bernese Cantonal Championships on August 11, this is another highlight of the season for which the Brünig winner cannot compete due to health reasons.
