Tadej Pogacar takes a big step towards his 3rd overall victory at the Tour de France after 2020 and 2021. After his success on Saturday, the Slovenian also wins the 15th stage ahead of Jonas Vingegaard.
After Tadej Pogacar had won the Giro d'Italia at the end of May with a lead of almost ten minutes, the question arose as to how well he had digested this strain. After the two Pyrenean stages at the weekend, the answer is more than good.
After Pogacar had taken 39 seconds off the Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard, winner of the Tour the past two years, on Saturday, this time it was 68 seconds. Just eleven kilometers before the finish, Vingegaard stepped up the pace in the group of favorites, but Pogacar easily kept up, while the overall third Remco Evenepoel had to let go. Pogacar then attacked with 5.4 kilometers to go, and Vingegaard had nothing to counter this attack.
Pogacar now leads the overall classification with a lead of 3:09 minutes over Vingegaard. Evenepoel, who reached the finish of the 15th stage 2:51 minutes behind the leader, is 5:19 behind. The riders will enjoy a rest day on Monday.
