The Sauber team's wait for its first world championship point continues. On October 8, 2023 in Qatar, Sauber scored points for the last time.
For the two Sauber drivers Valtteri Bottas (16th) and Zhou Guanyu (19th), the Hungarian GP ended on another sobering note. Bottas moved up from 12th on the grid to 9th at the start of the race, but primarily because the competition changed tires earlier, which proved to be the right decision in hindsight.
Bottas' result was particularly disappointing. The Finn started the race with eleven new parts on his car. As with Verstappen and Red Bull, the Sauber team had expected much more from the "upgrade" of the race car.
The Sauber team has just one more chance to score points before the summer break. The Belgian Grand Prix follows in a week's time, after which the team will not resume racing until the end of August.
