The 39-year-old from Lausanne defeated Pavel Kotov (ATP 62) 6:1, 6:1 in less than an hour, thus taking revenge on the 25-year-old Russian for his second-round exit at this year's French Open. His next opponent will either be the Chilean number 16 seed Nicolas Jarry (ATP 24) or the Australian Alexei Popyrin (ATP 46).
In contrast to the four-set defeat at the French Open, Wawrinka dictated the match at will in his second duel with Kotov within two months. The 2015 French Open winner won more than two thirds of all points and took his opponent's serve five times.
