The big drama between Arthur Fils and Hubert Hurkacz on Court 2. The facts of the 4th tournament day at Wimbledon.
Frenchman Arthur Fils (ATP 34), who had previously defeated Dominic Stricker, has reached the 3rd round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his career. The 20-year-old was leading 2:1 in sets against the No. 7 seed Hubert Hurkacz from Poland, but the score was 7:7 in the tiebreak of the fourth round. Hurkacz won the next point with a pike roll, but hit his knee hard in the process. He had his knee tended to, but had to retire two points later - on match point for Fils. Hurkacz, a Wimbledon semi-finalist after beating Roger Federer in his last competitive outing in 2021, left the court limping, but still took time to sign a few autographs for the fans.
