Lulu Sun (WTA 57) misses out on her first WTA title. The New Zealander, who played for Switzerland until the beginning of the year, loses the final in Monterrey against Linda Noskova (WTA 35) 6:7 (6:8), 4:6.
Sun came close to winning the first set. The 23-year-old had two set points in the tie-break, but then lost four points in a row. In the second set, Sun was unable to find a recipe against the strong serving Czech, who converted her first match point after 1:51 hours.
For Noskova, the triumph at the WTA 500 tournament in north-eastern Mexico was her first title on the tour. Two weeks earlier, the 19-year-old had lost her first round match against Sun in Cincinnati in two sets.
