One year after retiring as a player, Sven Bärtschi is returning to North America as an assistant coach for the Portland Winterhawks.
The 31-year-old from Bern once played for the team from Oregon, which plays in the WHL junior league, for two seasons from 2010 to 2012. At the Winterhawks, Bärtschi will be an assistant to head coach Kyle Gustafson, as the club announced.
The Bern native moved to North America as a teenager. In the NHL, he played a total of 292 games for the Calgary Flames, the Vancouver Canucks and the Vegas Golden Knights.
