Less than three hours after Julie Derron's sensational medal win, the Swiss men cannot compete for the medals in the triathlon.

The 28-year-old Max Studer from Solothurn finished the race in 40th place, 6:34 minutes behind. Three years ago in Tokyo, Studer had still made it into the top 10 (in 9th place). The 29-year-old Adrien Briffaud from Vaud finished in 49th place. Both had already lost too much time at the start of the swim and missed out on the 32-strong leading group in which the medals were awarded.

The gold medal went to 26-year-old Englishman Alex Yee, silver medal winner three years ago in Tokyo. Yee overtook 26-year-old New Zealander Hayden Wilde, who had also finished third behind Yee in Tokyo, in the final. Frenchman Leo Bergere took bronze.
