Wrestling king Joel Wicki has healed his injuries and will make his comeback at the Central Switzerland Wrestling Festival in Menzingen/ZG on Sunday. The man from Sörenberg will face Adrian Walther.
This is only the third time that the 27-year-old Wicki and the five years younger Walther have competed together. The Central Swiss was able to put the 200 centimeter tall Bernese in the sawdust last year at the Oberaargau Platt. At the Swiss Federal Championships in Pratteln, the subsequent winner Wicki had to settle for a defeat in the first round.
While Walther has won two wreath festivals this season and was in the final round at Schwarzsee, this is Wicki's first festival since his victory at the Lucerne Cantonal Festival at the beginning of June - his third wreath festival victory this season. The Lucerne native is aiming for his fourth triumph at his sub-association festival on his comeback. Wicki has won the Central Swiss in the last two years, as well as in 2018.
In the other top pairings of the first course, the locals will be teaming up with guests. Marcel Bieri, winner of the Northwestern Swiss, will take on Domenic Schneider, a heavyweight from north-eastern Switzerland, and Pirmin Reichmuth will face Adrian Odermatt from north-western Switzerland. There will also be Swiss duels between Christian Schuler and Patrick Räbmatter, Sven Schurtenberger and Michael Gwerder and Mike Müllestein and Patrick Gobeli.
