The Swiss beach volleyball duo Anouk Vergé-Dépré/Joana Mäder reach the semi-finals at the Elite16 tournament in Vienna.
Vergé-Dépré and Mäder beat Australia's Mariafe Artacho Del Solar and Taliqua Clancy in three hard-fought sets 23:21, 19:21, 15:9 in the quarter-final late in the day. The 2021 Olympic bronze medallists, who missed out on qualifying for Paris this time, are in the top four for the first time this season. In April, they finished second at the Challenger tournament in Xiamen.
Vergé-Dépré will face the Americans Terese Cannon and Megan Kraft in the semi-finals on Saturday afternoon.
Esmée Böbner/Zoé Vergé-Dépré, on the other hand, were eliminated in the quarter-finals, just like a week ago in Gstaad. The two Olympians lost to the Brazilian duo Agatha/Rebecca, seeded number 5, 17-21, 11-21.
