Mercedes line up on the front row at the British GP with pole man George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. World champion Max Verstappen only takes 4th place in qualifying behind Lando Norris.
Englishman George Russell will start from pole position on Sunday for the fourth time in his career - the second time this year. The 26-year-old from Norfolk, not far away, is literally floating on a cloud after his second GP victory a week ago in Austria.
The defending champion and clear world championship leader had to concede defeat to three locals and, in fourth place, will not start from the front row for only the second time this season. He had damaged the underbody of his Red Bull right at the start of qualifying, when the track was still wet, and was therefore struggling with a somewhat blunt weapon.
Charles Leclerc is currently going through a difficult phase. Since his emotional home victory in Monte Carlo at the end of May, not much has gone right for the Ferrari driver. At Silverstone, he even missed out on the final time chase in eleventh place.
The second Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez, who has been criticized for some time, fared even worse. The Mexican slid off the track in the first part of the race and got stuck in the gravel. As a result, he started from 19th and second-last place.
Best result of the season for Zhou
Zhou Guanyu from Team Sauber made it into the second part of qualifying for only the second time this year, after Spain the weekend before last. With 14th place, the Chinese driver achieved his best result of the season. Valtteri Bottas started his laps too early on a drying and therefore faster track and missed out on Q2 by just over half a second in sixteenth place.
