Last year's winner Jonas Vingegaard wins the 11th stage of the Tour de France in a sprint ahead of Tadej Pogacar. The Slovenian retains the leader's jersey.
On the demanding stage in the Massif Central to Le Lioran, the Dane Vingegaard won the final sprint by a wafer-thin margin against the leader Pogacar, who initially rode solo before being caught by Vingegaard. Remco Evenepoel finished third, 25 seconds behind.
Vingegaard was extremely emotional after the victory, his first in a sprint against Pogacar. He had crashed heavily at the Tour of the Basque Country in April and had to have surgery on his collarbone, among other things. Pogacar seemed to be heading for a superior solo victory for a long time, but had to let the strong climber Vingegaard catch up again on the penultimate climb.
Thanks to the bonus seconds for the stage win, the Dane, champion of the last two editions, made up two seconds on the Slovenian, winner of the two previous years. He is still 1:14 minutes behind in the overall standings. In between is the Belgian Evenepoel, 1:06 behind Pogacar.
The big loser of the day was the second Slovenian Primoz Roglic. However, he had a lucky escape when he crashed in a bend on the last descent and was classified in the same time as Evenepoel. He remains fourth, 2:15 minutes behind.
