Werner Schlegel from Hemberg wins the Northeastern Swiss Sub-Association Festival in Meilen. A week ago, Schlegel had already won the Schwarzsee mountain festival.
The 21-year-old Schlegel - who lost the final round to Samuel Giger two years ago at the Nordostschweizerisch - prevailed in the final round against Domenic Schneider (30) after more than 10 minutes with a powerful short move. Schlegel triumphed for the second time in his career at a sub-association festival. Two years ago, he won the Northwestern Switzerland competition.
"It feels fantastic"
"It feels fantastic," said Schlegel in the Platz interview. "This latest victory proves that I didn't just have a good day a week ago."
Nevertheless, Schlegel also had a bit of luck in Meilen. In the fifth round, when the final round was at stake, Matthias Aeschbacher from Bern almost got the result against Schlegel after just a few seconds. Schlegel was able to free himself in extremis - and put his opponent down in the sawdust shortly afterwards.
No guest has won the Northeast Swiss event since 2012 - primarily because of Armon Orlik (4 wins) and Samuel Giger (3 wins). Orlik was once again in contention for victory until the fifth round. Giger was tied back with three defeats.
Orlik in the Jura
However, there was still one victory for the Orlik family at the weekend. Curdin Orlik (31) won the Jura Gauverband festival in Raimeux de Grandval. Orlik defeated Lars Zaugg, ten years his junior, in the final round. Orlik won a wreath festival for the seventh time. He last won the Seeland festival two years ago.
