World champion Noah Lyles sets an example at the trials, the Olympic qualifiers for US track and field athletes in Eugene: Lyles wins the 100 m in commanding style and qualifies for the Summer Games in Paris.
Noah Lyles, who still has to qualify for the 200 m at these Olympic Games, won in 9.83 seconds and equaled his personal record. He relegated Kenny Bednarek (9.87) and Olympic silver medallist Fred Kerley (9.88) to second place. All three will compete in the 100 m in Paris.
The 2019 world champion Christian Coleman, who finished 4th in 9.93 seconds, is the victim of the high performance density over 100 m in the USA. Although Coleman is allowed to go to Paris, he will have to make do with appearances in the 4x100 m relay if no qualified athletes are injured. Coleman had already missed the 2021 Games in Tokyo.
Noah Lyles, who competed in the heats all in white and the final all in red, put on a show as usual before, during and after the race. "I'm ready," commented the three-time world champion from Budapest 2023 (100 m, 200 m, relay) on his victory. Lyles is also hoping to be nominated for the USA's 4x400 m relay team, which would allow him to aim for an unprecedented quadruple victory at the Olympics in Paris.
