The sprinter from Jamaica was in the lead over 200 meters and was approaching the finish line when she suddenly gave up. Video footage shows the Jamaican woman grimacing and burying her face in her hands. The 29-year-old had taped up her left knee before the start. It is not yet clear whether she just had a cramp or suffered an injury. It was her first competition since her double victory over 100 meters and 200 meters at the Jamaican Championships at the end of June.
Shericka Jackson is responsible for three of the four best times ever run in the women's 200 meters. She achieved her best time of 21.41 seconds on her way to winning the gold medal at the World Championships in Budapest last summer. She is closing in on the record set by Florence Griffith-Joyner, who ran 21.34 seconds at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul.
