Switzerland wins gold in the mixed relay at the World Sprint Championships in Edinburgh. Natalia Gemperle, Riccardo Rancan, Joey Hadorn and Simona Aebersold beat Sweden and Finland to the next places.
Starting skier Natalia Gemperle handed over fourth place to Rancan, who finished the second section practically at the same time as the leading Swede Emil Svensk. Even after Hadorn's run, the Swiss team and the Swedes were practically on a par. Aebersold then succeeded in distancing the Swedish top skier Tove Alexandersson by 7.9 seconds. Finland lost 38.8 seconds to Switzerland.
This is the second gold medal at a World Sprint Championships for the Swiss relay team. Rahel Friedrich, Martin Hubmann, Matthias Kyburz and Judith Wyder triumphed at the 2014 premiere.
It was the fourth medal for the Swiss delegation at the championships in Scotland. On Friday, Aebersold and Gemperle won silver and bronze respectively, while Tino Polsini took silver.
The World Championships will conclude on Tuesday with the knock-out sprint.
