Swiss international Granit Xhaka even briefly slipped into the role of advisor for his buddy Ricardo Rodriguez. "Nobody understands that the boy is available on a free transfer in the summer anyway," said Xhaka after the Swiss team's 1:1 (1:0) in the final European Championship preliminary round match against Germany, promoting his team-mate. Like the entire Swiss defense, full-back Rodriguez put in a good performance in Frankfurt on Sunday.
The clubs should pay close attention, Xhaka said with a grin. "Look at how he plays. He still has to sign a long-term contract somewhere," said the Swiss captain, who has been friends with Rodriguez for years.
Rodriguez's contract with Italian club FC Torino expires at the end of the month. Bundesliga fans know the now 31-year-old veteran mainly from his time at VfL Wolfsburg, for whom he played from January 2012 to summer 2017. After that, he also played for AC Milan and PSV Eindhoven for six months.
