The national team didn't rock the boat against the Scots. In the end it was a 1:1 - and these are the grades of our Nati stars.

Grade:  4.5

Goal

Yann Sommer

Always on his toes, great saves in half-time 1. What the Scots come at him, he keeps out. Only Schär's deflection defeats him.

Grade:  3.0

Defense

Fabian Schär

Unfortunate how he deflected McTominay's harmless shot beyond Sommer's reach. Lucky in the 67th minute when he didn't cover Hanley closely enough, but his header only hit the post. He then takes another one on the nose. A poor evening.

Grade:  5.5

Defense

Manuel Akanji

Calm and calm. With a great save in stoppage time. The best Swiss player on the night - and rightly voted "Man of the Match".

Grade:  4.0

Defense

Ricardo Rodriguez

Good start. After his yellow card (31st), then with one or two uncertainties. Regained his composure after the break.

Grade:  4.0

Midfield

Silvan Widmer

Misses from the best position in the 28th minute. One or two misplaced passes. Top battler.

Grade:  3.5

Midfield

Granit Xhaka

Has to chew hard bread because the Scot McTominay follows our director at every turn. On top of that, he made two or three unaccustomed misplaced passes.

Grade:  4.0

Midfield

Remo Freuler

Secures and closes down spaces. Holds off the combative Scots. However, unable to fill the role of playmaker for Xhaka, who was taken out of the game.

Grade:  4.5

Midfield

Michel Aebischer

Has many touches of the ball and collects kilometers. Usually does the simple things with the ball at his feet and does them well.

Grade:  4.0

Forward

Dan Ndoye

Unlucky because he was just offside when he supposedly made it 2:1. He misses other high-caliber chances. Has everything except efficiency. Put positively: He creates chances. Negative: He misses them all.

Grade:  5

Striker

Xherdan Shaqiri

When he concedes the goal, he just trots back and is outpaced by teammates and opponents. Then the stroke of genius: Shaq looks up briefly and curls the ball into the corner. All on the run and with one touch of the ball.

Note:  4

Storm

Ruben Vargas

Quick and lively, plays with a knife between his teeth. Wonderful dribbling, but - like Ndoye - too imprecise in his finishing.
