20-year-old Bernese rower Aurelia-Maxima Janzen qualifies for the semi-finals in the women's skiff on Thursday.
Aurelia-Maxima Janzen put in the best race of the season so far in the rowing basin in Vaires-sur-Marne. In this "complicated" quarter-final with Olympic champion Emma Twigg and the Serbian European champion Jovana Arsic, the Swiss athlete got off to a fantastic start. She took the lead in the first quarter of the race and was already eight meters ahead of fourth place in the first 400 meters. The first three qualified for the semi-finals.
In the end, Janzen had to pay tribute to the horrendous starting pace. But she was never in danger of missing the semi-finals. Olympic champion Twigg won the race with aplomb. But Janzen successfully defended 2nd place to the end. The 32-year-old Spaniard Viginia Diaz Rivas, who has already reached the A final twice at world championships, took the last semi-final place.
