Every child in Switzerland knows "079" by Lo & Leduc. However, three female acts were able to add new facets to the mega-hit in episode two of "Sing It Your Way" - including swear words in English.
The second episode of "Sing It Your Way" remains dynamic and, above all, varied.
With soul singer Rhea König, the dream pop band M. ilune and the singer/songwriter duo Another Me, three musically very different acts will be battling it out for a place in the final - and thus for the prize money of 10,000 francs, including the opportunity to record a high-end video clip.
"079" with a difference
The way there is via a new interpretation of the mega hit "079" by Lo & Leduc. After 21 weeks at number 1 in the charts, every child knows this song, at least in Switzerland.
This makes it all the more difficult to create something innovative from it. In fact, there are "already many cover versions", confirms Luc Oggier - the duo's Leduc - in front of the cameras in the Powerplay studio.
But: "Because the song has a self-contained story, it can be easily reinterpreted - especially in a different language."
"Holy F***"
No sooner said than done. Two of the newcomers, M. ilune and Another Me, sing the lyrics in English. The folk duo take a few liberties, replacing the Swiss emergency number with the American 9-1-1, and "huere Siech" becomes a hearty "holy f***!".
M. ilune, on the other hand, remain true to their dreamy pop music and, in addition to singer M's great voice, impress with the best visual style. Finally, Rhea König from Basel remains true to Swiss German and delivers a reinterpretation with plenty of soul and enthusiasm.
Little show, lots of substance
In the end, choosing the winner is no easy task for Luc. Not least because the rapper, who is so lively on stage, is a thoughtful person in his private life who is in need of harmony. "There are no winners and losers in music, it's not sport," he says more than once.

He himself does not put on a staged show either, but approaches his task as a juror with an analytical, almost humble attitude. For example, he openly admits that he could still learn a lot from a young act like M. ilune when it comes to using digital channels and social media.
Nevertheless, the dialect star is not sparing with honest criticism in the right places.
He points out to Another Me the danger of the interchangeability of their sound; no matter how professional their performance is, it won't change that. M. ilune, on the other hand, were still a little "wobbly" at the beginning - and with Rhea König he openly admits: "Soul is not usually my thing".
Surprising victory, honest joy
In the end, victory still goes to Basel. Why? "I could have awarded the prize to all three acts, everyone would have deserved it. But with one band, I have the feeling that they are ready for the festival stage. And that is Rhea König", Luc explained his choice.
Only time will tell whether he is right. One thing is certain: Rarely has a singer been as genuinely happy as Rhea König, who accepts the win as a "reward for her struggle" and as "confirmation that she is on the right track". Let's see if Stress and his winning act can top these emotions in the last episode before the final.
