Swiss R&B singer Naomi Lareine is a woman of clear words. The talents get to feel this in the first episode of the new "Sing it Your Way" season.
New year, new "Sing it Your Way": twelve months after its premiere, the music talent show from blue Zoom is back with new episodes. No wonder: the first season was great entertainment, and with singer-songwriter Andryy, it produced a winner who has since established himself in the Swiss music scene.
With a few small changes (for example, the presenter is now speaking off-camera), the new edition is now back. The concept has remained the same: a local music star acts as a coach for newcomer acts, who perform a cover version live in the Powerplay studio in front of the eyes and ears of the original performer. In the first episode of the new season, this means that three Swiss talents get to try their hand at "Limitless" by Naomi Lareine.
Strong woman, clear values
Anyone who knows the Zurich-based R&B artist knows that Lareine is a strong young woman who likes to call a spade a spade. The choice of song therefore fits like a glove: "Limitless" is a real "empowerment song", as Lareine describes it. A song that is intended to encourage and has the message that everyone should stand up for their values.
Lareine says that she herself has experienced first-hand that it is worth fighting against resistance. As an avowed lesbian, she has repeatedly come into contact with homophobia and racism. That's why the song statement "I'm not afraid to fight for what I like" is more than just a line of text for her - it's her motto in life, so to speak.

A warm embrace, unvarnished criticism
The question now arises as to how such a strong personality would act as a juror. The answer is - similar and yet completely different. Lareine is jovial when she greets her guests, hugs them and makes everyone in the studio feel immediately at ease. When it comes to judging the songs, however, the singer shows her tough side.
With Lucerne songwriter KAØØS, for example, the judge feels like "a big sister"; however, she is not afraid to address the wrong notes and recommend vocal coaching for her future career.
Lareine also makes no secret of the fact that she doesn't fully understand Sivilian's artistic approach and that his energy is "difficult to assess".
And when it comes to the more experienced singer Céline Hales, the R&B star criticizes her decision to play it too safe and criticizes her vocals for being too flat: "I expected more."
The winner is Sivilian
Naomi Lareine - a Swiss version of "DSDS" judge Dieter Bohlen? It's not quite that extreme in the end. Despite all the criticism, the singer is genuinely happy about all three versions of her hit and says that she would have preferred "all three to continue".
As this is not possible, Sivilian is ultimately chosen as the winner of the first episode of "Sing it Your Way". The very act that the R&B queen had previously criticized most harshly. But that's just it: With Naomi Lareine, you have to fight. For her respect - and even more so for the dream of a successful music career.
The first episode of "Sing It Your Way" airs on Monday, January 16, at 8 p.m. on blue Zoom. You can find all further information about the second season at: www.bluenews.ch/siyw
