Beatrice Egli has started a podcast called "Egli Extrem".
For this, she always meets someone without knowing who it will be and has an "extreme experience" without knowing what will happen.
In the first episode, she interviews podcaster Laura Larsson. She didn't know her personally in advance either.
Beatrice Egli wanted to try something new for her new album "Balance", which will be released at the end of June. For the first time, she recorded her own podcast series: "Egli Extrem". In this interview, she reveals what it's all about, how she came up with the idea and what's so difficult about it.
Beatrice, your new podcast saw the light of day yesterday. How does it feel for you?
I'm doing well, I'm very happy with it. I was a lot more nervous during the recording. For me, every episode is an extreme situation. Firstly, I don't know what we're going to do. Secondly, I also don't know with whom. But once you get over the initial fears, that's the fun of it. In the first episode, for example, I was in a wind tunnel with podcaster Laura Larsson. When I was "indoor skydiving", I could hardly breathe, the wind was coming at me at 180 km/h. That really panicked me at first. But after the initial shock, it was a great experience.
Did you know each other beforehand?
Not personally, I only follow her on Instagram. But it's a bit like real life: You meet someone and see where the journey takes you. As I share an extreme experience with all the guests first, like in a wind tunnel, we always have plenty to talk about.
How did the concept for these "blind dates", as it's called in the program description, come together?
It's actually tailor-made for me. I also enjoy meeting new people and getting to know them in my everyday life. And: I love adrenaline kicks. That's why we mixed these two passions together and created "Egli Extreme".
And why did you want to host a podcast in the first place?
The idea originally started with my new album "Balance". I wanted to expand the songs for my fans, so we recorded an episode for each track. The first episode is called "Herzgesteuert", for example, because I had to turn my head off before I could really enjoy my time in the wind tunnel. I wanted to give more space to the themes behind my songs and show that it's about more than just love. Every song can be interpreted in a different way - and that's what the conversations should show.
If you don't know who you're meeting, it can also lead to embarrassing situations, can't it?
I actually think it's really nice that it's about getting to know each other and not a clearly structured interview situation. Sometimes my guests don't know me either. Especially in the digital world, there aren't enough spontaneous encounters like this. I don't find it bad at all if someone doesn't know me - on the contrary. It allows a conversation to take place without prejudices or preconceived ideas.
But there's still the danger that you run out of things to talk about or that you don't get on so well anyway.
Yes, if the vibe isn't right, it quickly becomes difficult (laughs). But that's exactly the challenge. That you always find something that you have in common. There's always a topic where two people can find each other. And if there isn't, that's exactly the issue: that you don't have anything in common (laughs). For me, honesty helps at times like this. I also had to ask Laura for her name twice.
So you can live out your love of adrenaline kicks on "Egli Extreme". Do you also need them in everyday life?
I'm lucky enough to lead a very exciting life. When I'm presenting a Saturday evening show, for example, I'm on the edge of my seat the whole time. In everyday life, I often look for the other extreme - extreme calm. I think it's important to find the right balance in life.
Is it more difficult for you to find this balance thanks to your job?
That's a challenge for everyone. Sure, I travel a lot and am hardly ever at home, but otherwise I live a life like everyone else and have to find the right work-life balance just like everyone else. For me, it's also a constant process. You change, you suddenly have different interests and that changes what you need and what you want. The most important thing is to listen to your inner compass. But that's also something I first had to learn.
On Wednesday, it was announced that music icon Tina Turner had died. What connection did you have with her?
Unfortunately, I never met her, but I once saw her from afar on Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse. She was a woman who influenced and inspired generations - including me. And not just musically, but also as a person. She experienced so many bad things and yet afterwards she showed everyone that you can leave your past behind you and become even stronger as a result. You also have to remember that she was on stage when women still had - or rather didn't have - completely different opportunities in the music business. This strength is something that has always fascinated me about her. She has become an icon, not just because of her songs, but also because of her personality. The great thing is: Her music and her philosophy will remain forever, even after her death. She will live on in all of us.
"Egli Extrem" is now available on all podcast platforms such as Spotify and Apple Play.
