Metallica fans must be strong now. Because a "member of the Metallica family" has fallen ill with corona, they cannot perform their Swiss concert today.

After the cancellation of the Rolling Stones concert in Bern, the next disappointment for music fans comes because of corona: Metallica have canceled their show today at the "Out in the Green" open air.

"A Covid infection is preventing Metallica's festival appearance in Frauenfeld on Wednesday", writes the organizer Live Nation in a statement.

However, the festival with bands such as Sabaton and Eluveitie will still take place. "The organizers made this decision together with the artists, also to set a passionate sign for Live after years of standstill."

"Intention to perform in Switzerland as soon as possible"

The band also had their say in the statement: "It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that we unfortunately cannot perform in Frauenfeld because a member of the Metallica family has tested positive for Covid despite the strictest hygiene measures. We regret beyond all measure to have to disappoint our fans. However, it is our firm intention to perform in Switzerland as soon as possible and we are working with our promoters to plan a new date. Information on this as soon as possible."

Fans who already have a ticket for the festival can receive a refund of 50 francs. If you don't want to go to the concert at all, you can return the ticket at the respective advance booking offices.

"Huge disappointment" for organizers

"We only found out about it overnight", Live Nation media spokesperson Joachim Bodmer told blue Music. He could not give any more precise details about who exactly from the Metallica team has corona: "We don't know any more than is in the statement."

Everything was actually already ready for the mega concert: "Over 100 people have set everything up, 90 tons of material. The guitars are backstage." The fact that Metallica will now not be able to play their hits for the Swiss fans is a "huge disappointment."

It is "extremely difficult" for the organizers: "We have no protective shield. We are taking the loss." However, Bodmer hopes that as many fans as possible will still make the pilgrimage to Frauenfeld: "We have other big names at the start. Metallica themselves have advised us to hold the festival after all. We also want to set an example for live music."
