  • The musician won three awards for his latest album "Michael", shortly afterwards there was a physical altercation backstage and the rapper was taken away.
  • It was the first Grammy award for Killer Mike in over 20 years.

Killer Mike was only able to enjoy his three Grammys for a short time; soon after winning, he was led off the premises in handcuffs. He is now facing charges of "disorderly use of force".

A physical altercation is said to have taken place backstage at the Grammys 2024 - directly after the rapper had collected an award.

The 48-year-old, whose real name is Michael Render, secured his first trophy in more than two decades. He is regarded as one of the most talented spoken word artists of our time.

Video confirms Killer Mike's identity

As reported by "The Guardian", among others, the police announced on Sunday evening that "a male adult has been taken away in handcuffs and detained".

It added: "The suspect has been identified as Michael Render and faces a charge of disorderly use of force. He is already in the process of being released."

It was initially unclear who the suspect was when police pulled up at the Grammys and led a man away in handcuffs. But a video taken by the Hollywood Reporter clearly showed that it was Killer Mike.

"I thought it was cool to be a drug dealer when I was 20"

The arrest came shortly after he won three Grammy awards for his album "Michael", Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for his song "Scientists and Engineers".

Shortly before his arrest, Render commented on how he had changed with age: "The only thing holding you back in life is your age - because that's how experience comes. When I was 20 I thought it was cool to be a drug dealer, at 40 I know how stupid it was and I regret it."

So far, neither the rapper himself nor his management have commented on the incident.
