Anna Jurt finishes the modern pentathlon in 11th place. The medals are out of reach for the 22-year-old from Obwalden. However, she is just short of a diploma.
Jurt started the final laser run in 15th place, with five 600-metre laps and four stops at the shooting range. As in the semi-final the day before, the former U19 European champion was able to make up a few positions in her showpiece discipline, but she never came close to the medal ranks.
In the end, the Swiss athlete was a good 21 seconds off the podium, missing out on a diploma by less than seven seconds. Hungarian Michelle Gulyas took gold ahead of local Elodie Clouvel and South Korean world champion Seong Seung-Min.
In order to be in contention for a medal, Jurt would have had to create a better starting position in the previous disciplines. Although she got through the riding competition without a knockdown, she then failed to collect any additional points in the fencing bonus round. She was the slowest of all the finalists in swimming, the discipline she was worried about, finishing 18th.
