Italy's association president Gabriele Gravina has ruled out any personal consequences despite Italy's disgraceful performance in the European Championship round of 16 against Switzerland.

He himself will not resign, and he also expressed his confidence in national team coach Luciano Spalletti. "Demanding resignations is unacceptable," said the official on Sunday in Iserlohn. "Spalletti has our trust. We need patience," added the 70-year-old. With regard to the coach, who only took over in September, he added: "We knew from the outset that this would be a project lasting several years. It's not possible to abandon a project like this after just a few months."

After missing out on the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, it was the worst European Championship performance for defending champions Italy since 2004.
