France are again content with minimalism in their third European Championship match. The French drew 1:1 with Poland for the second time and only go into the round of 16 as group runners-up.

Kylian Mbappé, who had suffered a broken nose in the first game against Austria and returned to the pitch against Poland wearing a face mask, converted a foul penalty in Dortmund in the 56th minute to take the lead. The 25-year-old star striker broke his European Championship spell by scoring for the first time at a European Championship. As Poland, who had already been eliminated before the last game, equalized in the 79th minute with a converted penalty from Robert Lewandowski and Austria defeated the Netherlands 3:2 in the parallel game, the French missed out on winning the group.

One own goal and one converted penalty is France's meagre offensive output after the three group games. That is enough to secure a place in the knockout phase with five points, but the French will be punished by finishing in the same half of the table as Spain, Germany and Portugal.
