Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis crowns his second Olympic victory with another world record.
The 24-year-old cleared 6.25 meters on his third attempt at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis near Paris. That was one centimeter more than on April 20 at the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, China.
It was the ninth world record of Duplantis' career. He had already secured his gold medal with a jump of 6.00 meters. Then Duplantis, known only as "Mondo", set an Olympic record of 6.10 meters. The approximately 70,000 spectators celebrated the World and European champion frenetically at the end of the competition day with chants of "Mondo".
The other competitors had long been spectators by this point. American Sam Kendricks took silver with 5.95 meters and Greek Emmanouil Karalis bronze with 5.90 meters.
