Gareth Southgate is stepping down as England coach. In a statement published by the Football Association, Southgate said: "It's time for a change and a new chapter."
The European Championship final against Spain in Berlin on Sunday was his last game as England coach, Southgate said. England had already lost the European Championship final three years previously - that time against Italy on penalties and at home in Wembley Stadium.
Gareth Southgate (53) was coach of the England national football team for eight years and 102 international matches. England reached the semi-finals (2018) and quarter-finals (2022) of the World Cup under Southgate.
