Following the successful start in the Swiss Football League, the rule that only the captain may communicate with the referee in controversial situations will be extended.
From the 2024/25 season, the rule will be introduced throughout Switzerland in all leagues in which official referees of the Swiss Football Association are used.
In concrete terms, this means that the match official will signal with a clear gesture (horizontally outstretched arms) when players should keep away or move away. In these situations, only the captain may speak to the referee. Failure to do so will result in a warning.
