While his horse is already on his way home, Steve Guerdat takes part in the media marathon. The 42-year-old silver medal winner is also celebrated at the Maison Suisse.
Guerdat attended the well-attended ceremony without Dynamix de Belheme. The mare was already on her way home and could now enjoy some well-earned rest, explained the man from the Jura. He hardly had a free minute to himself after his coup, rushing from one interview appointment to the next.
But even after 7 p.m., he patiently provided information and reaffirmed his joy and pride in what he had achieved. After winning gold in London 2012 (with Nino des Buissonnets), he can now take silver twelve years later. "Winning two individual medals as a rider at the Olympic Games is very rare in our sport." He has been lucky to have had "fantastic horses and people" around him all these years.
Guerdat is a perfectionist, explained Damian Müller, President of Swiss Equestrian and member of the Council of States. "Even with great successes, he always finds a millimeter that he can improve." Müller himself, however, only had one criticism: "If the President sends you a text message, you are welcome to reply next time," he joked. The fact that Guerdat is currently waiting for a text message reply will certainly be forgiven on such an exceptional day.
