Mountain accident 72-year-old hiker falls and dies in Bergell

A 72-year-old hiker fell and died on Tuesday evening near Maloja GR in Bergell on the Pass da Casnil Sud. It is unclear why the Dane fell from the path.

The man was part of a six-person hiking group from Denmark, as the Graubünden cantonal police reported on Thursday. The hikers realized in the early afternoon on the way to the Forno hut that the 72-year-old had fallen behind. He was found dead near the rocky, alpine hiking trail.

A Rega crew recovered the body. The cantonal police are investigating the circumstances that led to the mountain accident.
