All three candidates have put themselves forward for the second round of voting for Secretary General of the Council of Europe. On Tuesday afternoon in Strasbourg, the Parliamentary Assembly still has the choice between Alain Berset, Indrek Saar and Didier Reynders.

The second round of voting will take place between 16.00 and 18.00, as President Tehodoros Rousopoulos told the Council. In the second ballot, a relative majority is sufficient to be elected. This means that the candidate who receives the most votes will be elected. The results of the election are expected to be announced between 7.25pm and 7.30pm.

In order to cast their vote, members of parliament must leave the council chamber and cast their vote in one of the voting booths set up for this purpose.

In the first round of voting, Berset received the most support with 92 votes, followed by Saar (78 votes) and Reynders (70 votes). 241 ballot papers were distributed, 240 of which were valid. A total of 121 votes were needed to win the election.
