From September, Winterthur will become a blue zone almost across the board: in order to keep commuters out of the city in the east of the canton of Zurich, all white free parking spaces will be re-marked.

Residents in Winterthur's neighborhoods should thus be "relieved of the parking pressure caused by commuter traffic", the city on the border with the canton of Thurgau announced on Monday.
The signals will be unveiled at the entrances to the city on September 1, the press release continues. Residents will be able to obtain a combined ticket for day and night parking for an annual flat rate of CHF 710, which would mean a surcharge of CHF 50 compared to the current night parking fee.
The new blue zones will cost just under CHF 1.2 million, according to a statement from the city of Winterthur. The number of parking spaces in public areas would remain virtually unchanged at 5,500.
