A 56-year-old man was injured in a work accident on a construction site in Pratteln BL on Wednesday afternoon. During renovation work on a detached house, he was trapped by falling building parts, as reported by the Basel cantonal police on Thursday.

The 56-year-old was carrying out renovation work on the house on Ergolzstrasse when parts of the extension suddenly came loose. Rescuing the injured man proved to be difficult, as large parts of the extension were in danger of collapsing, according to the police.

The fire department was finally able to free the construction worker after around an hour by means of a complex technical rescue. After initial treatment on site, he was taken to hospital.
