The already gloomy mood in the German export industry has deteriorated further. The Munich-based Ifo Institute's monthly index of export expectations fell to minus 6.3 points in September after minus 5.2 points in August.

The majority of companies assume that fewer foreign orders will be received in the coming months. "The export industry is in a weak phase," explained Klaus Wohlrabe, Head of Ifo Surveys, on Wednesday. The metal sector and automotive industry in particular are expecting significant losses.
