According to his family, 99-year-old former US President Jimmy Carter is determined to cast his vote in the upcoming election in November. The newspaper "Atlanta Journal Constitution" from Carter's home state of Georgia reported, citing his grandson, that the Democrat, who has been receiving palliative care for months, has made this his goal. When asked by his son whether he wanted to reach his 100th birthday in early October, Carter replied: "I'm trying to hang on so I can vote for Kamala Harris."

The incumbent US Vice President Harris is running for the Democrats in the election on November 5. She became a candidate at extremely short notice following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the election campaign. Georgia is considered one of the deciding states in the vote.
Carter has been in palliative care with his family since February 2023. He has been struggling with health problems for several years. His 100th birthday is coming up on October 1.
The Democratic politician from Georgia was US President from 1977 to 1981. Carter's wife Rosalynn died last November at the age of 96. The two were married for 77 years.
