The Israeli army announced that around 40 missiles had been fired at Israel from Lebanon. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attacks, which are said to have been aimed at a military base. Some were intercepted by the missile defense, the rest fell in open areas, the Israeli army added.
There were no reports of casualties. The fire department is trying to extinguish fires caused by the attacks. In addition, a drone loaded with explosives had crossed the border into Israel from Lebanon. It crashed in the area of the town of Metulla. No one was injured.
Counterattack in the Bekaa Valley
During the night, the Israeli air force and artillery attacked targets in Lebanon, according to the statement. A "terrorist cell" had been hit in the process.
On Saturday evening, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that four people - including three children - had been injured in an Israeli airstrike in north-eastern Lebanon. The Israeli army had reported that the air force had attacked Hezbollah weapons depots in the Bekaa Valley and in Baalbek.
Almost daily attacks on both sides
Since the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas almost a year ago, there have been almost daily military confrontations between the Israeli army and Hezbollah in the border area between the two countries. There have been casualties on both sides - most of them members of Hezbollah.
On both sides of the border, tens of thousands have had to flee their homes due to the ongoing fighting. The mutual shelling has caused severe destruction in villages on both sides of the border. According to its own statements, Hezbollah is acting in solidarity with Hamas.
